Allure of my red nails

Let me tell you something, red nails never fall out of fashion and that's with good reason ;).

In my opinion they signal power and confidence, right?

They show that a woman is potentially bright and fun ;) (at least most of the time :D) And wearing such a bold colour makes quite a statement. Red nails are a classic - the 'ultimate colour'. And with simple casual jeans, red nails simply just add fun and some bright colour. Agree? However red nails can be seen as 'too vampy' by women who do not have the confidence to wear them well. You've got to get it right with red, by that I mean the shade, the application and the maintenance. If you have got the confidence, it can be very sexy and glamorous but mostly very sophisticated and very feminine colour to wear too. I know women go with the trends but red nail polishes are always going to be in. Just saying! :).

And where did it all start? Red nail polish was made alluring and socially acceptable in thirties New York by Revlon. When Revlon founder Charles Revson wasn't selling a very deep red polish, he was selling 'Cherries in the Snow' and 'Fifth Avenue Red';) A bit of fantasy right;) Which I absolutely adore! He was simply selling the chance that it might turn the right head or lend a touch of class. Amazing! Further on women were sold on red with the groundbreaking Fire and Ice marketing campaign in1952, matching their lips and fingertips :). The promotion featured Dorian Leigh, one of the most beautiful models in the business, oozing sex appeal in a silver sheath and splaying fiery red nails across her face. Overnight red nails became sophisticated and exciting, as they remain. Beautiful and timeless for sure!

No doubt I love red nails because they add a bit of drama too ;) And what i most love about red nails is that it always gets a little bit of your personality out. To me, red is daring and although It is very 'look at me' kid of.

To get that perfect smooth, shiny finish you've got to prep the nails properly, with the base, two coats and a top coat (yes you want that shine int he end ;)) and do it well. Do no't get it in the cuticles as it looks cheap and nasty (yes, I said that). You are better off painting the red a millimetre away from the cuticles to prevent 'run in' and once it is there, all you can do is take the whole thing off and start again :). Also, with each layer of polish brush a stroke across the end of the nail to seal each coat in. And paint on a layer of top coat each day for extra wearability and to keep the nails shiny and glossy and add another seal on the nail.

Also red nails must be short(er) nails (it's the length that does it ;)). And it is important to find the right red. To me, a true red that is bright, is right for summer and a deeper red is best for night and winter. Beside red nail polish needs to suit the skin tone too, with blue based reds best for pale skins, and orange based reds or brick reds flattering to golden and tanned skins ;) And we all know there is a neutral, classic red that suits everyone ;) Trust me!

And remember, a small chip in red nail polish is like looking at a missing roof tile, so make sure red nails are always well groomed and well shaped ;).

Until next time, S.
