There are many cosmetic companies that market pencils, gels, and other products that can help make your eyebrows look thicker. But is there a way to grow thicker eyebrows without relying on makeup, hmm. I though fro many years that its not possible, but with age and knowing my body and its needs - I certainly changed my mind. So my answer is Yes.Whether you have hair loss or just naturally thin brows, there are numerous home remedies you can try if you want thicker eyebrows. But first, let's see what I have found out.
My favourite so far its the olive oil with the scent of lavender (all home made and as virgin as it can be - but it does wonders for sure. I use it daily, as my facial cream and I apply it on my eyebrows every morning and evening before bed time. So, read more about the benefits of the olive oil and others - worth to mention too.
Olive oil
You can find olive oil in products aimed at hydrating your locks. But can it help with hair growth, particularly around the eyebrows? As mentioned above, yes it does. (Beside, a 2015 studyTrusted Source of mice indicated that applying ingredients derived from olive trees could trigger hair growth). Although there’s little data to support topical use of olive oil to grow eyebrow hair, olive oil may coat the hairs to give them the appearance of more girth and thickness, that is for sure.
Lavender oil
Lavender oil is perhaps best known for its calming effects. When applied topically, it’s also thought to combat hair loss. (So the mix of the two - olive+lavender - is the win win for sure ;)).
In terms of scientific studies, lavender seems to show promise only in treating stress. While not generally considered harmful as a hair loss treatment, no quality studies back up the effectiveness of this usage.
Both - olive oil and lavender oil should be massaged into the brow area daily for a relaxing and self-care ritual (I do it twice a day, mornings and evening).
Coconut oil
Coconut oil has been increasing in popularity as both a cooking oil and a dietary supplement. It’s also touted as beneficial to the hair and skin when used topically. While the oil has been studied extensively for general health concerns, such as weight loss and dementia, there’s no widespread scientific data backing up the use of coconut oil to increase hair thickness. Still, the buzz about coconut oil for hair health continues in the natural health market. When you choose to use it, simply warm up a small amount of oil in your hands and massage it into the eyebrow area. You can leave the oil on overnight and wash it off in the morning. (I follow this tip for my hair, but that is something I will talk more about in some other post ;)).
Tea tree oil
Like coconut oil, tea tree oil purportedly stimulates eyebrow growth and thickness by creating a moisturising barrier for cellular and follicular health. Also, historically used for cuts and other injuries, tea tree oil is a skin treatment It’s available in numerous over-the-counter products, but you can also find tea tree oil extracts to apply directly to your eyebrows. I use tea tree oil essential oil to mix with other base oils for numerous of things, so it sure is number one 'first aid' product in my purse or bag while on travels. As with other oils you can choose to apply daily to your brows and leave on overnight. (to do this, you should use pure tea tree oil not concentrated essential oil!).
Now that I pointed out some of the physical products you can use and try on your brow, I would love to bring out some other things you should considering before making drastic changes to your skin overall. It is important your body is in balance, therefore,
- De stress your body
Yes, stress can lead to a condition called telogen effluvium, which changes the hair growth cycle. Though often thought of as a cause for scalp hair loss, I noted eyebrows and eyelashes can be affected. Stop worrying, find ways to destress and see the difference).
- Massage could help
An eyebrow massage may not only feel good, but there’s also a chance it could naturally stimulate growth. I try to do this from time to time, I simply gentle massage with my favourite oil to assist in circulation to this area. Just be gentle with doing it and you will be fine.
- Patience and fixing your bold spots ;)
It is a life save on numerous occasions, however it is always good to know why bold spots in first place anyway. Could be of many reasons. Know your body, do a little research and find ways to work around it.
Until next time, S.
