Stop limiting yourself and keep moving forward

Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. But I do believe you can go as far as your mind lets you. And what you believe, you can achieve - remember that! You can take control of your thoughts, change your beliefs, and take action to move your life forward. Trust me!

1. You are good enough just the way you are

You do not need to be any better than you are. You do not need to put yourself under any pressure. Listen, of course, you are not perfect and you have strengths and weaknesses (as we all do), but you are a human being and you are equal to everyone else just because of that. It is completely normal. Simply accept yourself just as you are today. I know this is not easy to do if you have spent a lifetime listening to yourself and other people telling you you are not good enough. However, it is possible to be kinder to yourself and speak to yourself kindly when things do not go as well as you would have liked. But no matter what happens, you are still a valuable person simply because of who you are, with your unique combination of qualities, skills and experiences. Stop listening to the ones that tell you otherwise. Start believing in yourself!

2. You are capable and competent - yes you are

One way of limiting yourself is to say that you can not or will not do something. But once you start learning to do something, you are a beginner as no one is 100 percent capable at first. But that is ok. Everyone makes mistakes. You am I, but you learn something valuable from each mistake you make. And over time, you will gradually become more competent. Simply get rid of negative thinking pattern and remind yourself daily that you can! Practice that and over time, you will begin to believe in yourself, and your self-confidence will grow too.

3. Do not give up

Do you ever say to yourself, 'there is no point in trying, I am bound to fail'? Oh yes right,I hear you. Do not think this is not happening to me either. But how will you know what will happen, if you do not even try? If you do not try, you will never succeed. Your belief will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. But trust me when I say you have to carry on trying, no matter what. Simply try (fail if necessary), but then pick yourself up, and try again. And again, and again. I call it life. You may need to repeat this process many, many times before you succeed. But you never know when something you try is going to lead to success. So, try it anyway. It sure is worth a go! And remember, there are unlimited opportunities in life, but we see so few of them through our very limited vision. We need to develop 360-degree vision to become more aware of just how many wonderful possibilities are out there. And even if you cannot see the opportunities, believe that they are there. Believe that you will see them when the time is right. You may not see a particular opportunity until the time is right for you, until you have grown and learned enough to take that opportunity. So, do not be discouraged. Keep learning and keep trying. You do not ever have to give up. As long as you are alive, there will always be a new way, a new path or a new opportunity for you to take. And trust me, each time you do so, you will be a little wiser, having learnt from each one of your past experiences and that will help you to walk into the unknown and explore whatever is there. Been there - done that!

4. Keep moving forward, day by day

'Self limiting' beliefs can be quite deep rooted, so it may take some time to loosen their influence on you. Try not to be discouraged by this. Instead, practice acting on your new, positive beliefs about yourself every day. Try to take at least one small risk every day. You will feel wonderful after you do something you are at least a little bit scared of — and next time, you will be less scared.

And remember, you can go as far as your mind lets you. Just re-frame your negative thoughts about yourself and your life, so that you can move forward at least a little further each day.

And if you read my blog post, you know by now, that exercise and physical activities among other healthy habits play a big part in believing in yourself. Just allow yourself to try.

Until next time, S.
