So, it's been a while now, that I am thinking about 80 - 20 (nutrition - exercise) formula when it comes to exercise and overall health and fitness. But does it really? In my opinion, whoever told you that, lied to you. Trust me! This sure is the most extreme 'bag of sh..'. So, let's break it down.
Many people say the fountain to youth is 'gift', but let me tell you, when we are young our youth can overcompensate and negate so many things. Our limitless amount of energy, our ability to heal and recover and our never ending ability to defy certain laws of life all reign true. However, we all meet a certain time we can no longer rely solely on our youth only, right? We must take precautions, follow certain processes and always think ahead. And to me, no other area is more accurate than when it comes to our health and fitness among with our mental (as well emotional) intelligence. How? Let's just simplify this and say that after a certain age (perhaps 40's), our immune system slows down and suddenly dehydration becomes a common occurrence.
1. To me formula 80-20 does not exist
If you really wish to create a strong foundation you could build on, then only formula 8-20-100 exist. And this is how I break it down (and trust me, it does apply to overall healthy lifestyle and living).
- 80 (% of nutrition)
This one, to me, is crazy as hell. Yes, true! Once you start doing this, your body and mind gets crazy and you keep fighting your 'demons' over all the food you eat. And why we get crazy? Because we constantly fight over what to eat or not to eat, skipping meals, etc. -not realising that body needs all sort of nutrition, full good nutrients to keep our bodies alive and function properly. When it comes to food, the only thing that matters is to eat right (to consume what your body needs) and to eat for a purpose, not only for pleasure! Once you understand this, things get easier for sure. It's truly that simple. Remember, that pleasure is only found in living a long prosperous life with an abundance of energy (and that does not include stuffing yourself as turkey for a Thanks giving day). Might sound too harsh, but the truth is clear. Once you start to understand your body's needs and the amount of food your body needs, you no longer need to count calories nor put yourself in agony over food. But in reality, still so many people deal with it, i know. I am here to helps and share that you can change this game for better.
- 20 (% of exercise)
Well, I am going to be quite honest here as majority of people still don't get it. To me (from my own experience), this is the area most people struggle with. Let's dig in a bit. But first, let's clear out this too. There is no such thing as out working a bad diet or nutrition (fact). It does work hand in hand, so the more you workout, the more nutrition your body need to rebuild, replenish and recuperate. I see it on a daily basis where people workout about 2hrs a day, yet complain about 'hitting plateau' and not getting any results. Well, simply, this happens because they (too many times) major in minor thing in life. Trust me, if your sole purpose in just to loose some weight, maintain your weight, feel better in your own body, it really does not take too much. To me it's all about finding that joy in 'sweating' and building up on your individual's specific goal. It should become your lifestyle not something where someone force you into it, ok? Start where you can and with what you can and slowly progress further, focus on your progression instead of being constantly perfect and reach your goal as fast as you can ( just so it's done asap). No shortcuts here, trust me. You have to breathe the lifestyle you're getting yourself in. No science here!! Once you start enjoying your daily physical activity, you will become obsessed with and the 'obsession' will eventually get you 'there'. It will become like air or water to your body and soul. End.
'we cannot expect fantastic energy if we are not fanatic about flowing positive energy through us daily. we cannot act confused about having inconsistent growth on our journey when we are inconsistently growing personality.'
Now last but not least, (and to me) definitely the game changer of all.
- 100 (% mindset)
Simply (not a rocket science), if your mindset is not all the way together, then there is no way you can create a healthy and active lifestyle, nor you can accomplish anything worth while in your life. To me, building on mindset means being mentally strong with daily creating a healthy lifestyle. Not just for me, but to my family too. Being consistent, having discipline, practising restraints and persevering through the relapses is the toughest part, i know.
'your level of success will rarely exceed your level of personal development' by Jim Rohn.
Sometimes it will happen that you can overpass that, but on majority of cases you will have to work on it. And work on it daily. Again, no shortcuts. Life will always get you to a starting point. So many times, that eventually in the end you learn from it and grow.
Let's say, you cannot expect phenomenal results without a phenomenal mindset.
So, lEt's keep it here. I will write about it more in my next posts. For now I'll keep it short and 'strong' as it is.
And remember, implementing mindset into your life will not happen overnight, but the decision to implement this and change directions in your life can happen overnight ;)
Cheers, to your strengths (not just in your muscles) but to your emotional and mental strengths too ;) To me, is the only way to go.
Until next time, S.
